The World’s Most Extraordinary Setting for a Racket Sport Holiday
Overwater padel courts, private island tennis, and turquoise lagoons stretching to the horizon. The Maldives is the ultimate answer to the question: what if your sport holiday was also the most beautiful trip of your life?

Unlike our other destinations, the Maldives is not organised by region in the conventional sense — the archipelago consists of over 1,000 coral islands spread across 26 natural atolls, and the experience is defined by the resort rather than the geography. What follows is our guide to the types of resorts that suit different kinds of sport travellers.
The atolls closest to Malé international airport, reachable by speedboat in 20–45 minutes… offer the most accessible Maldives experience without compromising on luxury. Several of the resorts here have invested in excellent padel and tennis facilities, making them ideal for travellers who want to maximise time on the island rather than in transit.
A short seaplane hop or longer speedboat transfer brings you to a set of islands that feel marginally more remote and often slightly less crowded than the North Malé options.
One of the most biodiverse marine environments on earth, and home to several of the Maldives’ most celebrated ultra-luxury resorts. The seaplane journey from Malé — approximately 30 minutes, itself a spectacular experience — arrives at a cluster of islands where the combination of extraordinary natural environment and world-class resort facilities is unmatched anywhere in the archipelago.
For travellers who want maximum seclusion and are happy with a longer seaplane transfer, the outer atolls — Lhaviyani, Raa, Dhaalu, and others — offer some of the most genuinely remote island experiences available anywhere in the world.
There are destinations that are good for sport. There are destinations that are beautiful. And then there is the Maldives — a place so visually extraordinary that it seems to exist outside the normal rules of travel.
What has changed in the last few years is that a small but carefully curated selection of the archipelago’s luxury resorts have invested seriously in racket sport facilities, bringing overwater padel courts, floodlit tennis pavilions, and professional coaching to an environment where the Indian Ocean stretches uninterrupted to every horizon. The result is unlike anything else in the world of sport travel.
You warm up with the sound of the ocean beneath your feet. You play padel on a glass-backed court suspended above a turquoise lagoon. You finish your session and walk thirty seconds to a sun lounger, a private pool, or a snorkelling trip over a coral reef.
The Maldives has two distinct seasons, and understanding them is important for planning a sport holiday.
Dry season (November–April) is universally considered the best time to visit. The northeast monsoon brings calm seas, low humidity, clear skies, and the best conditions for both outdoor sport and water activities. December through February is peak season — the most popular and most expensive time to travel — but the conditions are exceptional. March and April offer slightly lower prices and remain excellent for sport. This is the season we recommend for the majority of our clients.
Wet season (May–October) brings the southwest monsoon, with higher humidity, more cloud cover, and occasional heavy rain. Importantly, this does not mean constant rain — many days during the wet season are perfectly fine, and the resorts remain open and fully operational. Prices are significantly lower, sometimes dramatically so, which makes this an interesting option for flexible travellers. Sport is possible throughout, though early morning sessions are particularly advisable in the higher humidity months of June and July. October signals the end of the monsoon and is often an excellent time to visit at a transitional price point.
The difference between a good Maldives trip and an extraordinary one almost entirely comes down to resort choice — and in the context of racket sport travel, this matters more than in most destinations. Not all resorts have sport facilities. Of those that do, the quality varies considerably.
